Subscriber Testimonials

A learner of Korean:

"LANGUAGE LEARNING is an **excellent** publication. Keep up the good work!"

A learner of French:

"Thank you for your excellent newsletter. I have found it very useful and have particularly enjoyed following the references to the media given in issue #6. I have taken up your suggestion of regular reading and print out and read a couple of articles from French newspapers everyday. I have found the French broadcasts very clear and the sound continuous, (which is more than I can say for most of the American broadcasts that I have listened to via the internet) - who knows one day I may even be able to fully understand the news in French!"

A learner of Spanish:

"I appreciate all your work and efforts. Your newsletter is always informative and intelligently composed! Thank you!"

A learner of Arabic:

"It's wonderful. Blessings be upon you... You have graciously given lots of approaches that are user-friendly and really cost-effective. Thanks... Your approaches include people at different levels -- thanks! Keep them coming, please. Thanks for doing this."

A learner of Welch:

"I loved these thoughts on language-learning!"

A learner of Chinese:

"I really just wanted to let you know how entheusiastic I am about your newsletter and the possibility getting new ideas about learning."

A language teacher:

"Thanks a lot for your newsletter. I find it very interesting, being a L2 teacher (or L3, because I live in a bilingual community). Anyway... would it bother you to send me the 3 previous issues of your newsletter?"

A teacher in Italy:

"Congratulations on a job well done. I will pass this on to my colleagues and students."

From an NGO administrator:

"I share selections from the info from Language Learning with about 40 others.... I also have encouraged them to subscribe for themselves."

A learner of Spanish:

"I have found your publications to be very helpful, interesting, readable."

A learner of English:

"I think your job is great...any article that you include is value for me because of the richness of its content."

A learner of Italian:

"I AM ALWAYS GLAD TO SEE THE NEXT ARTICLE IN MY MAILBOX AND LOOK FORWARD TO READING IT WHEN TIME AND PEACE AND QUIET PERMIT."

A learner of Slovene:

"It has been helpful to have Language Learning available for us as we learn Slovene, we wish we'd had more of these ideas as we started, hired a tutor, etc. It is harder to implement these after some of the wheels have been set in motion. Thanks for your work in this. . . we can use all the encouragement we can get!!"

"Thanks for all the work you do for these issues! Keep up the good work!"

A learner of Dutch:

Brilliant idea......Thanks so very much.....you have made learning much easier for me.

A learner of Japanese:

"I really want to thank you for doing this for free!"

A learner of Mandarin Chinese:

"Keep up the good work! Get the word out about this newsletter!"

A learner of Russian and teacher of English:

"[I like] the amazingly varied and creative ideas that are suggested as ways in which to teach/learn a new language. It seems as if this approach addresses the different learning styles we all have, therefore removing the stigma that there is only "one" way in which to learn something. The articles and suggestions are well written, clearly understood, and easily applied. The various teaching/learning suggestions make learning another language FUN!!!"

A teacher of English:

"As a beginning ESL teacher without an English or Teaching degree, I find that even the few articles that I've read so far have given me ideas that work with my own learning challenges as well as my ESL students. They have given me a greater confidence with regard to my teaching methods and the variety of ideas makes it fun for both of us. I sincerely appreciate that you do this."

A learner of Chinese:

"Keep up the good work, you have really made a helpful resource for the language learner. When I came across it, I ended up going to the archives and looking up all the articles."

A learner of Japanese:

"Although I might not use all the ideas you give they make me think!!!! Simply thank you for a fascinating resource."

A learner of Romanian:

This is a wonderful idea. As far as this newsletter, I wish I would have found it earlier, though I have learned a lot.. I have saved all the newsletters for future language learning. I always learn something no matter how advanced my  language is but I would like to see helpful hints for more advanced learners more often, not necessarily a whole article. but a couple points at the end. have an "advanced" section where you just make a couple points from time to time.

A learner of Italian:

"Very worthwhile newsletter"

A learner of French:

"Really, it's just great right now! Perfect! I'm telling all of my friends about it that are also learning languages, and several of them have signed up as well. Thanks so much for doing this! I've read some of the Thompson articles before, but having them pop up in my inbox right now when I can actually do something about applying what's in them is just invaluable. You're providing a real service to language learners!!"

A learner of Icelandic:

"Thank you for all your good work!"

A learner of Kikuyu:

"Thank you for a very useful resource."

A learner of Norweigian:

"You're doing a good job! I showed it & spoke about it in my linguistics course."

A learner of Lithuanian:

"I am thankful to have this information coming and can share it with others. I am not overly proactive in my language learning as I interface with many English speakers in my work. But, it is good to feel that I am in a process..."

A learner of Polish:

"Keep up the good work. I am finding it both fascinating and useful."

A learner of Spanish:

"We don't often get a chance to thank people, but I'd like to thank you. You're doing a great job with this newsletter. I appreciate your efforts very much. Thank you."

A learner of Japanese:

"I think [your newsletter] needs to be "pushed" more. I've shared it with one friend who immediately shared it with many in his organization."
